The majority is in favour of Paks II.
According to the latest survey conducted by Századvég on behalf of Paks II. Ltd., 66.4% of those surveyed support the investment, while 29.4% disagree with the project and 4.2% did not take a position or did not answer the question.
The representative survey was conducted in person between 15 September and 10 October 2025. Support for the project has been above 65% for three years, and this value reached 75.3% in September 2022. Based on the public opinion poll, it can also be stated that the majority of respondents (62.8%) see nuclear energy as the key to ensuring the country's safe and continuous electricity supply, while natural gas is in second place with 11.4%, and solar energy is in third place with 7.4%.
The vast majority of respondents (83.5%) believe that nuclear energy and renewable energy sources complement each other well in domestic energy production. 87.4% of those surveyed would rather rely on domestic power plants to meet electricity needs, which is consistent with the statement that 73.6% believe that the construction of new units primarily means reducing energy dependence, and they also see significant potential in keeping the price of electricity affordable (59.5%), as well as in its economic revitalization and job creation effect (51.5%).
The construction of the levelling concrete is in progress in the Paks II. project area and preparations are currently underway, in order to begin the construction of the foundation slab of the first technological building in the excavation pit of Unit 5 on 5 February 2026, i.e. the first concrete pouring. According to the terminology of the International Atomic Energy Agency, the new Paks nuclear power plant will be considered under construction from this milestone.
