A fleet of thirty units of machinery has been deployed to start the work.

Another important phase is starting in the construction of Paks II Nuclear Power Plant: on 18 March the construction of the Unit 6 excavation pit to the design level began. During this, nearly half a million cubic meters of soil will be removed from the 150-meter-wide and 190-meter-long excavation pit to reach the depth of 23 meters during the excavation. Thirty units of machinery were deployed to start the works and the process will last until the end of 2026.

A total of 3.5 million cubic meters of soil will be removed during the site preparation – including the deepening of the entire area to the groundwater level and the construction of the two excavation pits. This amount of soil is equivalent to the earthworks for 63 kilometres of highway construction.

In the vicinity of the work area, in the area of the nuclear island of Unit 5, which is divided into bays, the construction of the foundation slab is progressing in phases that build on each other: the levelling concrete of the different areas, the waterproofing and grounding mesh of the levelling concrete, the reinforcement and the concreting of the foundation slab bays are taking place side by side, based on the so-called construction organization plan.
