More than a quarter of the presentations at the Nuclear Technical Symposium held in Budapest dealt with the Paks II. nuclear power plant project.

The Paks II. investment played a prominent role at the 21st Nuclear Technical Symposium held in Budapest on 28-29 November. At the conference of the Hungarian Nuclear Society, fourteen presentations related to the construction of the nuclear power plant received special attention, with the topic accounting for more than a quarter of the two-day program. Paks II. has been participating in the annual conference, which aims to provide a professional forum for domestic technical and scientific exchange, since its inception. Thanks to this, every year there is a good opportunity for the industry to learn first-hand about the progress and technical details of the nuclear power plant project.

– The Hungarian Nuclear Society is a kind of melting pot in the nuclear technology industry, it organizes those companies, background institutions, and enterprises dealing with nuclear technical issues that can exchange experience – emphasized Krisztián Szarvas, Technical Director of Paks II. Ltd., adding: – We appeared at the symposium in such large numbers to present our activities and the progress of the investment. Many of our presentations dealt with independent safety analyses. The aim of these analyses, which are the result of several years of work, is to prove that the power plant being built will operate with adequate safety. In addition, their important task is to provide feedback on issues arising during the implementation planning, since it is always much easier to intervene during the planning than to strengthen the level of nuclear safety later with a safety-enhancing measure.

Krisztián Szarvas highlighted that the project requires the knowledge and experience of the background institutions, and they count on the established cooperation in the long term in order to ensure that the investment can continue to progress towards implementation on schedule.

The Hungarian Nuclear Society considers it its task to develop nuclear culture and to promote the use of nuclear methods for peaceful purposes, with expertise, responsibility and in a controlled manner in all areas, and therefore these methods do not endanger people's health and living conditions, but rather improve them. The society is working to ensure that the new opportunities revealed by nuclear research contribute as much as possible to protecting the environment.
