New electricity consumption record was set

More electricity was consumed than ever before on 22nd November at noon. 30 percent of the demand was met by the nuclear power plant.

The load on the domestic energy system increased to 7,450 megawatts (MW) in the quarter-hour electricity period between 12:00 and 12:15 on 22nd November 2024. According to the gross certified actual data of MAVIR Hungarian Independent Transmission Operator Company Ltd., this is the highest daily electricity system load value ever registered in Hungary. The previous peak of 7,441 MW was set on 22nd January 2024.

At the time of the record, the import ratio was high, 35.3 percent,

the Paks Nuclear Power Plant was operating at nominal capacity, thus contributing 2054 MW to production,


and domestic gas power plants contributed 1546 MW. Wind power plants produced 238 MW, while solar power plants contributed only less than 2 percent in cloudy weather, producing 134 MW, which is just over 3 percent of the installed industrial capacity (3967 MW).
