The service base is being built at the excavation pit of Unit 5 of the Paks II. Nuclear Power Plant and preparations are underway for the first concrete pouring.

Intensive planning and design verification work is underway in the Paks II. project, equipment manufacturing is in progress and spectacular work is also expected in the excavation pit. In accordance with the requirements of the nuclear regulatory body, the German-owned contractor for soil improvement Bauer Hungary Ltd. has installed a surface protection net in the excavation pit of Unit 5 in order to increase work safety. The newly created pedestrian road, which was delimited with prefabricated concrete elements and a metal railing system on the ramps of the 23-meter-deep excavation pit, also serves safe work including access to the work area.
An important stage of the Paks II. project will be the pouring of the first concrete, which will be preceded by the construction of the so-called assembly concrete three months earlier. The construction of the staging area serving the works is underway: after the necessary area planning, containers will be installed and areas suitable for the deposition of machines and equipment will be created. The construction is being carried out by the subcontractor of ASE called TITAN-2, with the involvement of the Hungarian-owned Bayer Construct Ltd.
The pouring of the first concrete is one of the most important milestones in the construction of a nuclear facility, from this point on the Paks II. Nuclear Power Plant officially qualifies as a nuclear facility under construction.
